Indoor Spots for Kids

Ohio weather is unpredictable. It may be thirty degrees and snowing one day, with the next being eighty and sunny! With the unpredictably of the weather and the need for your kiddos to get out of the house in mind, I created a list of indoor play places in Columbus, both free and pay-to-play style.

Dublin Recreation Center – DublinGym set up with age appropriate toys and equipment for the kiddos on Monday and Fridays from 9 – 11 a.m. The cost $3 or the have a frequent visitor card. You do not have to be a member of the rec center to join in on the fun!

Westerville Community Center – Westerville – Gym set up with age appropriate toys and equipment for the kiddos on Monday and Fridays until May 2nd,  from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM. The cost is $3 or purchase a frequent visitor card for $15 good for 6 visits. You do not have to be a member of the community center to join in on the fun!

Recreation Outlet – Powell – Bouncy trampolines, awesome swing sets, basketball hoops and so much more will keep your kiddos busy. Monday – Friday // $6.00 for up to 2 hours of play per child. Charitable Play // Tues – Thurs // 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. // $2 per family // 50% of the charitable play cost gets donated to a charity.

Magic Mountain Kids Space – Polaris and Reynoldsburg – Both Polaris and Reynoldsburg locations have great kids play areas that are closed in by a gate! Slides, balls, tunnels, big blocks, etc. Open Daily // Thursday has special pricing from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. // $2.50. Unlimited Play Membership from Labor Day to Memorial Day for $35/child

Sports Ohio – Dublin/Plain City – Open play on Fridays from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00 offers an inflatable slide, adrenaline rush obstacle course, bounce house and playing your favorite sports activity on the indoor field! $8.00 per kiddo.

Gym Skills – Gahanna – Gym Skills is a gymnastic studio in Gahanna. My favorite event they offer is “Stay & Play Open Gym.” For kiddos walking to age 5, they set up fun obstacle courses, allow them to have free range of most of the gym, provide balls, hula-hoops, trampolines, etc. Tuesday//Friday from 9:30-12:00pm, $5 members, $8 non-members

Metro Park Programs – All over Columbus – The programs offered at the metro-parks are free. For most, you have to sign up on their website. If kiddos 18 and under go to five programs, they will earn a pretty cool metro parks explorer badge! Most events are inside – but, there are a few that are outside or a few inside ones that take a hike at the end. I highly suggest these events. Our metro parks are fabulous and have amazing naturalists who work for them!

Play Cafes Little Greenhouse // FireFly // Peapod // ZenKidz // Piccadilly

Brick of Dreams – Dublin – An open play environment filled with Legos, allowing your kiddos to freely explore and build. This is a fantastic place for anyone interested in Legos! They have bigger legos and smaller ones. Click on the link for details on hours/price, as they change.

Bounce/Trampoline Parks Super Games // Sky Zone // Get Air // Buckeye Bounce

Marcus Theaters – Crosswoods & Pickerington – On Tuesdays, movies are $5 ALL day + free popcorn for magical movie rewards members. During the summer, they offer a program called Kids Dream Series. Admission is $3 or you can print a coupon off their website (or visit one of the participating agents at American Family Insurance, and you can receive two FREE tickets to your choice of movies!) I love this movie theater. I think they have the best seats + to me, it is the most kid friendly. The seats are big and there is a good amount of room in front of the seats in front of you. If you’re kiddos haven’t been to the movies yet, the kids series is a great place to start.

Central Park Playland – This is a FREE event at Westerville Christian Church. They offer open play Tuesdays/Thursdays from 10-11:30, Sat from 9:30-11:30 and Sunday from 11:45-12:30. Inside, they have a gated room with a big play structure, a small rock climbing wall and a small play structure for the little ones. You do not have to register to attend or be a member of the church!

Vineyard Community Center – Lil’ Tots Open Gym is FREE on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. You meet in the Vineyard Community Center Gym. It is for ages 5 and under. You do not have to register to attend or be a member of the church! Goes through May 25th.
