Well, we have another fun week ahead of us in Columbus! Don’t forget story times are back in session, apple orchards are ready for us and there are always new parks to explore!
Monday, September 5th
Ox Roast & Community Festival, held annually since 1945, will feature arts, crafts & collectibles, a bounce house, face painting, an 800 pound pit cooked ox + sandwiches and other great food!
Pickerington’s Lions Club Labor Day Parade and Fish Fry starts at 10:00 am. They will have a parade, big cash raffle, entertainment, going school marching band + free inflatables for the kiddos.
The last day for the 44th Greek Festival in the Short North.
Tuesday, September 6th
Head to Blendon Woods to fly like a bird, hop like a bunny, and crawl like a turtle as you and your kiddos learn how animals move and where they go. 10am or 1pm – no registration needed!
Hofbrauhaus has an entire week planned of fun events in celebration of Oktoberfest, kicking off on Tuesday. From keg tappings to stein parties throughout the week to the big party Friday-Sunday. On the weekend, they will have contests like Stein Holding, pretzel tossing and more. Face painting, circus acts and of course LIVE MUSIC! Check out their Facebook event for a schedule of events!
Wednesday, September 7th
Visit Camelot Cellars new location in Olde Towne East and get the chance to try from over 60 different wines that they offer! From 6:00-8:00pm you can go out and try 10 wines for $10!
Bryant Miller, the community manager at Yelp Columbus, will be entertaining us at ‘The #hashtag Comedy Show’ at Shadowbox Live. #Hashtag Comedy is a rag-tag bunch of improv comedians putting on improv and variety shows in Central Ohio. Each show is unique, guaranteeing that audiences will be seeing something new, fresh and funny, no matter if it’s their first #Hashtag show or fiftieth. Get there at 7:30. Tickets are $5!
Thursday, September 8th
Bring your kiddo to the Scioto Audubon for a nature-inspired story or two. Starts at 10:00, no registration needed.
Nighlight 614 will be showing ‘Oceans 11’ at Genoa Park. This week,they will be featuring Columbus Brewing Company, Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Hungry Monkey, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and AromaKu. This is a 21+ summer outdoor movie event!
Join the Friends of Metro Parks for the second annual Yappy Hour! Admission is FREE for all, including your four-legged friends. Starting at 6:00 at the Scioto Audubon Dog Park. There will be food trucks, local beer, Graeter’s Ice Cream, a local vet from OSU Medical Center, Capital Area Humane Society, music, puppy pools and more!
Friday, September 9th
Second annual OHIO BACON FESTIVAL starts at 4:00. Participating vendors, including local food trucks and restaurants, will have the opportunity to serve one-of-a-kind and signature bacon creations during this one-day event. Music, entertainment and beverages in the heart of the city at Columbus Commons – what a PERFECT Friday night!!
They took the summer off, but, Hills Market [downtown] are back with their monthly Friday night wine tastings! Your ticket of $15 gets you the choice of 10 different wines, beers or cocktails, plus savory and sweet snacks. It is one of my favorite events! Bring your own wine glass and you get entered into a drawing for free tickets to their October event!
Bexley’s Main Event will feature Inside Out. There will be kids crafts and activities, “Bexley’s Got Talent” community talent show, food from Hot Chicken Takeover, Market District Food Turck and Aramark. Starts at 6:30 at Capital’s Main Lawn. Movie starts at sunset.
The 10th annual Honeyfest will kick off in Lithopolis at 3:00pm. At this event you will meet beekeepers, participate in honey tasting, see a honey bake off, learn about honey extracting and hive inspecting, meet the American Honey Princess and so much more! The admission, parking and shuttle are FREE!
Saturday, September 10th
Clintonville Arts & Music Festival, an annual celebration of Clintonville’s creative community, returns Saturday, Sept. 10, at Whetstone Park! This this one-day neighborhood arts festival features local artisans, live music performers and food from Weiland’s Market. Starts at 10:00 am.
If you’re visiting the Zoo, make sure to stop by Jungle Jack’s Landing of the Touch-A-Truck event from 10:00-5:00.
This Month’s PB & Jazz concert will feature Kelly McLennan. PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. Story time in the Main Library starts at 11:00. Concert starts at Noon. Art Activity starts at 1:00.
The Moonlight Market, a monthly outdoor street festival / marketplace, takes place starting at 6:00 pm on Gay Street in Downtown Columbus.
The 3rd Annual Creekside Hops & Vines Fest starts at 6:30. Spend a night at Creekside in Historic Gahanna for an evening full of craft beer, wine and cocktail samplings, live music provided by The Martini Affair, delicious food from local vendors, and support The Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation in their committment to improving the quality of Gahanna parks and recreation services for a healthier community. Ticket price includes 15 craft beer or wine tastings, unlimited gourmet tacos from Local Cantina, musical entertainment by Martinie Affair and raffles in the beautiful setting of Creekside Park & Plaza.
Sunday, September 11th
Head down to Fourth Street [between Main St and Broad St] to experience it from a whole new perspective. The street will be closed to cars so you can PLAY in them. An urban playground where you can bike, skateboard, play some shuffleboard, jump rope and double-dutch, or have a meet-up with lawn chairs in the middle of downtown. This free event starts at Noon.
Starting at Noon, head to Westerville for the ‘Great Westerville Food Truck Fest.’ It is a full day of family time featuring live music, children’s activities, a variety of food truck vendors + you can join in on a food packaging service project that will benefit our hungry neighbors in need.
The Glacier Ridge & Homestead Naturalist will be out at 2:00 to help to your kiddo the basics of fishing including casting, how to properly handle a fish and properly carrying the pole. You can bring your pole or borrow one of theirs. They provide the bait. Suggested ages: 3-15.
