The Westerville Rec Center is one of my f a v o r i t e spots in Columbus for many reasons. The space is gorgeous and offers many different things for our community to enjoy. It is one of my go-to spots when it gets colder outside and will we want to get out of the house. They offer a great open play time on Mondays and Fridays. Their pool is wonderful for all ages, offering a specific preschool swim time. If the kiddos get bored during open play, they have a fun indoor playground at the front. They also offer many great classes for you and your kiddo. Added bonus: If you take an adult class, they have a fantastic little sprout’s room for your kiddo to enjoy {at an affordable price} while you’re in your class.
Open Play
During Toddler Time {kindergarten and younger} they also offer arts & crafts. It is in a separate room from the open play, which is nice because it breaks up the play time. I feel like we are able to stay longer because the activities get changed up.
Playground
When you first walk into the Community Center, you will see the indoor playground. It is a great addition to our morning playtime.
Watering Hole
We have been going to the indoor pool at the community center for years. It is a great pool for the kiddos. It has zero entry along two sides with little fountains on one, an interactive playground in the middle with a slide, a lazy river and the best part – they offer preschool swim time. Monday thru Friday from 9-11 am. They re-open the pool for the kiddos Monday thru Friday from 3:30-5:30 pm, extending to 9:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday. On Saturday, they have swim time for the kiddos 1:00-7:30 pm and Sunday noon-5:00pm. The price for ages 3 and older is $5 for residents and $7.50 for non-residents. They have connected changing rooms with bathrooms and showers for men and women, as well as a few family changing rooms.
Special Events
Westerville does a fantastic job putting on special events, especially in the fall/winter. Examples: Halloween Treat Trail Party, Zombie Halloween Pool Party, Mom & Me Holiday Tea, North Pole Lunch and Cardboard Boat Racing. My f a v o r i t e event that Westerville Community Center puts on is ‘Snowflake Castle’. It takes place at Everal Homestead and Barn Saturday, December 3 thru Saturday, December 10th. Your kiddo will stop by Santa’s Workshop and visit with his elves, who will help them build their very own wooden toy to paint and take home. While you are there, you can take a picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus + they have a great train set-up, as well as a gift shop with locally made things. Be prepared to buy a few bags of cookies. We go to this event every year! It has gotten so popular, that you have to buy tickets are register. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mkt.com/snowflakecastle starting on Tuesday, November 1 at 9am. They sell out!! Check out the recreation guide for more details on upcoming events.
