Holiday Events: 12/5 – 12/11

Happy Monday! Just like last week, there are a ton of fun holiday events going on this week around town. On top of these events, don’t forget to check out the lights at The Scioto Mile, Alum Creek & The Columbus Zoo.

Monday, December 5th

Ohio Dominican University invites you to ring in the holiday season at their annual Christmas Celebration! The festivities will kick off Monday, Dec. 5, with the University’s tree-lighting ceremony, which will take place at 6 p.m. on the front steps of Erskine Hall. With more than 100,000 lights illuminating ODU’s campus, this evening offers an enchanting tradition of lights and holiday cheer.

Tuesday, December 6th

Bring your kiddos to The Athletic Club of Columbus for a decadent cookie decorating and craft making! Take home your box of cookies and a few crafts, while other crafts will be left at the Giving Tree for children of the Homeless Families Foundation. $10 per child plus tax and gratuity, applies toward minimum. RSVP online or at the Front Desk: 614.221.3344. Limit 75 children.

‘No-Office’ Holiday Party – Are you at a company that can’t afford to throw a big holiday party? Are you working solo out of a coffee shop and unsure if it’s cool for you to crash your barista’s staff party? The team at Columbus Startup Week is throwing a free ‘No-Office’ holiday party for entrepreneurs in town (cool people with office jobs can come too). Come out this December 6th to Vue Columbus in German Village to celebrate. Space is limited – make sure to register.

Canvas & Wine – Bend of Seveny Winery is hosting a canvas & wine party with a  “Snuggling Snowman/woman” theme. The Party Studio will provide all materials and lead the class as you create our own “Snuggling” masterpiece! Cost is $40 (cash or check made out to The Party Studio).

Wednesday, December 7th

Holiday Ornament Painting – Studio 614 is hosting a holiday pinterest night at Le Meridien Columbus. This is a 2-hour ornament painting class, and each guest will paint 4 ornaments. No experience is necessary, and they will walk you through the steps together in order to customize the ornaments. All of the supplies are included with artist instruction! Beverages and food will be available for purchase [separately] at Latitude 41, and there will be plenty of table space for this. We’ll take breaks periodically as well. Sign up here.

SDOC Holiday Party – Join the Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio along with several local elected leaders as you celebrate some local electoral successes, but also reenergize and unify toward our joint future. This is a *free* event and open to the public, with appetizers being provided by Park Street Cantina.

Merry and BrightThe Salty Caramels will rock with their sassy yet nostalgic tunes featuring unique instruments like the saw, kazoo, washboard, glockenspiel and more while you stroll through horticulture-infused holiday displays, including 1,900 poinsettias and 3,800 seasonal plantings. Don’t forget to check out the time-honored traditions like a 15-ft. poinsettia tree and Paul Busse Model Garden Railway.

Holiday Social at Dough Mama – Take a break from the holiday bustle and come spend an evening of making with Sarah Harste Weavings, Under Aurora and Wild Origins. At our Holiday Social, you’ll celebrate the holiday season with three mini-workshops, snacks, and a community of women coming together to create! Register here to claim your spot.

Thursday, December 8th

Holiday Suncatchers at Zen Kids – Winter is in the air, but the sun is still shining bright! In this class children will get to create their own winter-themed sun catchers!

Westerville’s Evening at the North Pole {Registration Required} – Santa’s elves will serve a light meal with a special dessert and beverages. Santa will share great stories from the North Pole! Christmas crafts and a sing-a-long will get everyone in the holiday spirit! Registration is required. A lunch and dinner event is also offered on December 9th. 

CRC’s Holiday Gala at Mozart’s – Support the CRC through the biggest holiday party of the season! Their 10th annual Holiday Gala takes place at Mozart’s in Clintonvile, featuring food and beverages from more than a dozen local restaurants and businesses. The night will also feature a Silent Auction. Get your tickets here.

Holiday Spirits at Soul Bar – Join one of my favorite local businesses –  Watershed Distillery – for an evening of holiday cocktail samplings. Enjoy four samples of different seasonal cocktails for $10.

Friday, December 9th

Family Fun Day – Visit the shops in Uptown for lots of fun family activities! Some of the fun happenings include writing letters to Santa, making reindeer bait, and cookie decorating. Kids will also be able to make an ornament and participate in a scavenger hunt through uptown. Activities will be available Friday, December 9th 11-4 and Saturday, December 10th 11-4.

Festivus 2016 – Kicks off at 400 West Rich on Friday and continues through Sunday. Its the perfect time to check out the fabulous space, visit with open studios and shop local vendors. To get a list of open studios and vendors to shop, click here.

Harry Potter Magical Holiday Ball with Barnes & Noble –  Head to Barnes & Noble at Easton for a free Harry Potter themed event. There will be photo ops, holiday music, professional psychic reading, ornament making, wand dueling, quidditch pong, pin the bolt on Harry and more! Dressing up is not required but highly encourage  to wear your most fun Harry Potter digs or ball gowns/dress robes!
Holiday Tree Lighting Sponsored by New Albany Realty – Lighting the Holiday Tree on Market Square. There will be crafts, music, hot chocolate and more!
Mama + Me Make your own winter hat – Join Mini-Market for a night of custom making beanies! Ashley Pelzer of Lather & Stitch will have pre-made beanies ready for you, with tons of accessories to customize our crocheted hats with bows, ears, poms, etc! Tickets available here.
Winter Open House & Market – Columbus Idea Foundry will be open two days for their annual Winter Open House event–Friday evening for Franklinton Fridays and Saturday from noon-5pm. Make your own handcrafted ornament for your own tree or a gift at one of our make-and-take stations, check out live demos, and shop for thoughtful artisan gifts at our artisan market.

Saturday, December 10th

Breakfast with Santa at Rusty Bucket – Rusty Bucket is hosting Breakfast with Santa from 8:30 – 10:00. For $5, visitors will enjoy a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast, as well as coffee, nice or milk. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots. All guests are also encouraged to donate new and/or gently used coats. All coats will be donated to the Salvation Army in early 2017.

Discovery District Holiday Trolley Hop – Enjoy the Columbus Discovery District and the Topiary Park with this old fashioned Holiday Trolley Hop!

Made LOCAL Marketplace Holiday Show #2 – This is their biggest Holiday Show yet! During the show, you will be able to shop local from over 100 Ohio artists, crafters, food artisans, inventors, and entreprenurs.

Santa Paws is Coming to Town – Bring your fur baby for a picture with Santa! They will also have festive bandanas available to purchase to spruce up your pooch for this fun picture! All proceeds to benefit Our Mission Dog Rescue. Picture will be printed on site and placed in a festive frame for you to take with you. Pictures $10 Bandanas $2

Kiss My Biscuits Drag Brunch – Holiday Edition – Come out for the Kiss My Biscuits Drag Brunch Buffet at Union in the Short North! You’ll enjoy a mile long Smirnoff Bloody Mary Bar, Live Waffle Station and scrumptious Brunch Buffet!

Santa Speedo Dash for Diabetes – The Santa Speedo Dash is a 5K fundraiser for the Central Ohio Diabetes Association (CODA). To register for the Santa Speedo Dash click here.

Holiday Hoopla – Each child will get to make an ornament, decorate a cookie and get their picture taken with Santa. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and get yourself some super yummy treats. They will also have a gift basket raffle and a special appearence by Elsa and some other surprise characters!! Tickets are $5 per child at the door or you can register on eventbrite.
Pop Ups & Pints – Head to Zauber from 4-9 PM for the first in a series of pop up markets featuring all local vendors. Hang out with friends, grab a Z beer, and do some holiday shopping all at once in the brewery room at Zauber!

Sunday, December 11th

Christmas Vacation Beer Tasting – Head to the Grandview Theater & Drafthouse to celebrate the holidays with Cousin Eddie and the Griswolds. Andy Wuelfing will be your host. You will receive a limited edition pint glass, 10, 5 ounce pours of Christmas beer, plenty of giveaways, and Christmas themed funny stuff in between each pour.

Vegan Holiday Pop-Up Market – It’s All Natural will host the Vegan Holiday Pop-Up Market. All are welcome to come for vegan food, sweets, cruelty-free handmade gifts, natural products, and more. Prize raffles will be held throughout the event. Proceeds is benefiting the Columbus Veg Community. Bring in 5 non-perishable plant-based items and receive a raffle ticket. Admission is free.
Kids Shop – Join Good Makery for a Secret Holiday Shop where your kiddos can shop for YOU!  You decide the price point and they will help your child select a gift you will adore. You can help your child or wait in an adjoining room where you can hear the hustle and bustle of their shopping experience. Kids will leave with their gift packaged and ready to go under the tree! For kids 5 and up!
2016 Holiday Sip & Shop – Do you like free wine and chocolate? Do you like supporting local businesses? How about having one convenient location where you can shop clothing, jewelry, skin care products, food items, and more? The 2016 Holiday Sip & Shop at the beautiful Clintonville Woman’s Club will have all of the above! Come anytime between 5 – 8 PM and enjoy some free wine while you shop.
