Favorite Five

Blind Lady Tavern

We  checked out Blind Lady Tavern *FINALLY* and were far from disappointed.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀”SERVING MORE THAN JUSTICE SINCE 1831″

We sat out on the patio, but, inside, there is a pre-Prohibition saloon vibe. I love that dark and cozy type of atmosphere. A small, yet, powerful menu – showcasing a Southern comfort, country cuisine with a New Orleans flair.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Another favorite item on the menu were the hush puppies with cayenne honey. They are made from cornmeal and have pieces of whole corn inside. Crispy, salty and a bit lighter than a normal hush puppy. Think I tasted a bit of jalapeño in them, too. Not enough to be spicy. If I can give you one tip, order more than one basket because they are incredible.⠀⠀

I opted for the BLT Banh Mi – 5 Spiced Braised Pork Belly, Slaw, Cilantro, Jalapeño, Aioli and Soft Roll. The fat on the meat literally melts in your mouth. The combination of that, with the tangy slaw, spice from the jalapeño and roll that was perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside – well, it was the best. I tried to take half home for later, but, by the time she brought the box – it was all gone.

I wish we would have had more time to explore both the cocktail and food menu, but, we were in a bit of a rush. I can’t wait to go back. Looking forward to trying fried green tomatoes, stuffed peppers and chicken n’ biscuits.

Keep in mind cocktail hour is from 4PM TO 7PM. Closed on Mondays.

DeMonye’s Greenhouse

DeMonye’s ‘Haunted’ Halloween House is one of my F A V O R I T E fall things to do with the kiddos. If you’ve been to DeMonye’s before, you will be blown away to see how they completely transform their greenhouse into a kid-friendly haunted house. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The entire greenhouse is filled with fun things, such as corn filled play areas, bounce houses, mini-basketball, bouncy balls, goodie bags filled with things such as popcorn to fill a witch hand and pretzels for snacking, pumpkin picking, farm animals, a ‘haunted’ trail and a straw maze.

The cost is $8 per child and *new this year* $2 per adult – it is worth every dollar! The price includes everything mentioned + more. You can spend as much time as you would like playing. I brought my niece who is 14 months and she LOVED it. I have also brought older kiddos (5 & 7 years) and they had just as much fun.

You can read about our visit last year here. Each year, they add a few more things in/change things up, but, it is pretty much the same – which is awesome because it ROCKS. Seriously, we have been going for years!

Baby 0 is 14 months and I think it is the perfect environment for her. There was so much for her to do. I think it would be ideal for ages 1 – 8 or 9 years old.

Wendy’s Gymnastics

Have you heard of Wendy’s? I have many friends that take their kids there, but, never had the chance to take my nanny kiddos. Luckily, I have my niece to keep doing all the fun things Columbus offers for the little ones. You want to add Wendy’s to your indoor list of spots to go, especially with the cold days coming up. Well, minus the 80 degree October days were having later this week. (what is this weather about, Ohio?!)

I met a friend for open gym on a Thursday and it was perfect (and easy). We walked in, signed up and played for an hour. Simple. I loved that we didn’t have to pre-register, perfect for last minute and on-the-go times. O is 14 months and it was perfect for her. I was wondering if she might be too young, but, she wasn’t. They have two sides to the gym, which were both open and available to play in. While this is an “on your own” environment, the teachers are out and interacting with you and your kiddos. They were all AMAZING and very friendly.

The tunnel was one of her favorite things! Also,  looking at herself in the mirror and licking them were at the top of the list!

They have so many different activities for the kiddos to do. O never got bored and we were there about an hour. We will be back for sure.

I can’t find any of my pictures of the actual gym! Darn. This is from their Facebook page. During open gym, we were able to play in here, as well as the other side of the gym (not pictured).

Hall of Two Truths

Before Lindsey, from the blog ‘A City Explored’ and I went and fangirled over Ed Sheehan, we stopped at Hall of Two Truths to check out their food menu. I have been looking forward to seeing what they would do with the menu and what type of food they would choose. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed – a small, yet powerful menu, perfectly designed to be shared. While it was hard to choose, we went with the fries (duh) and the fried green tomatoes.

Forbidden Fruit – Corn Meal Crusted Fried Green Tomatoes served with Lima Bean Relish & Goat Cheese. Can I just start with the question of, “Why have I never had goat cheese with FGT?!” What a combination. Happy to report the Fried Green Tomatoes were perfectly crisp and had the crunch of a pepper- they didn’t get mushy at all when fried, which was a relief. Nothing worse than mushy FGT. The goat cheese added a bit of tang and a great creamy texture to balance out the fried coating.

Hall Fries – Pecorino Romano + Steeped Guajillo Pepper Aioli. You also have the choice of jalapeño dusted, white truffle or sea salt & fresh-cracked pepper. I wanted each topping. Type of fries you can’t stop eating.

Next time, I am for sure getting the ‘Jewls of the Nile’ [deep fried risotto balls, duck confit, house luxardo bbq sauce, caramelized jameson onions] and the ‘Tender Expenditure’ [Irish butter marinated lobster claws napping in between a 10” flour tortilla shell with a cojita cheese & charred elote style corn].⠀⠀

Highly suggest getting in there – such a cool vibe. Bonus: the cocktail menu is just as creative as the food menu, featuring quality, custom creations + the classics you’re familiar with.

On our way to Ed Sheeran, which ended up being an incredible concert! We had wayyyyyyy too much fun, if that is even possible!

Rockmill Tavern

Rockmill Tavern, maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe you haven’t? I am sure you have heard of Rockmill Brewery, right? Located in Lancaster. The spot with the old church and the magic water? If you haven’t, you must go. It is GORGEOUS. They have a wonderful tasting experience  + you can bring your own food. Perfect day trip. Anyways, back to the tavern, located in the Brewery District. I have been once, just for drinks and loved it. I knew I had to get back. Luckily, the opportunity presented itself this week. The girls and I went to ‘Backstage Bistro’ for the roasting of Disney heroes and it happens to be right next door. While we didn’t have a lot of time, we made the most of it aka ordering the sandwich that I have been dying to try. The sandwich I’ve heard is “the best chicken sandwich you’ll ever have.”

Well, I am here to report the the rumor is true. The ‘spicy chicken sandwich’ is insanely good 👉🏽 bread and butter zucchini, urfa mayo, brioche, spicy honey butter. One bite in and I guarantee you’ll agree. The (not too spicy) breast is thick and juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside – just the way it should be. The real winning combination, is the spicy honey butter and the soft, brioche bun. The sandwich literally melts in your mouth. Make sure to add on a side off fries & apple fritters

We sat out on their patio as the sun was setting. Gorgeous. The inside is just as gorgeous – sophisticated, rustic, swanky, romantic. Just lovely.
