Tranquility Salt Cave

Recently, I was invited to come in and check out Tranquilty Salt Cave. If I am being completely honest, I only said yes because I love the two girls who were putting the event together. *insert awkward confession face* Stephen and I had previously checked out another salt cave room and I was not impressed. I remember looking for a clock the entire time to see how much longer I had to sit in the chair – wishing it would hurry up. I felt like I had zero benefits and politely turned down the opportunity to come back again.

With that being said, I can not RAVE about Tranquility Salt Cave enough. Wow. This was a completely different experience – nothing like the one I had previously.

Tranquilty Salt Cave is Columbus’ ONLY salt cave! Although it has been around for centuries, salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, has only just recently become
popular in the United States.

I am not one to sit down and when it comes to slowing my mind down, yeah right! In situations, where I am forced to relax – I tend to get anxious and my mind spirals. This was not the case (the entire time). After about 15 minutes, my thoughts started to slow down. My hands and feet started to relax. The tension loosened up. What was this feeling I thought to myself? I can only it assume it was complete and utter relaxation taking over my tired, over-worked body. Between the zero gravity chairs in the cave to the soothing sounds of meditative music (similar to one you’d hear during a massage or spa treatment) to the dim light to the boulders changing colors, representing the chakras in our bodies — I am not sure they could add anything else to this beautiful experience.

Who knew behind this gorgeous door, I would find ultimate relaxation! The Buddha should have been a sign .

What’s inside of the cave?

  • 10,000 pounds of Himalayan salt boulders around the permitter of the room — from floor to ceiling. Some of the boulders change color, which was really neat. The colors are to represent the chakras, which are our energy centers in our bodies.
  • Five 250 pound salt lamps which emit negative ions. Those ions help to gently relax our bodies and mind.
  • The ceiling is infused with thousands of fiber optic lights, which gently rolls from time to time. Simply gorgeous.
  • Zero gravity chairs to sit in, which each have a warm, comfy blanket waiting for you on the seat. Don’t worry, you don’t have to use your abs to hold the chair down the entire time – it locks in place, thankfully!
The door is shut, keeping out all natural light. I took these pictures with the door open, just to give a better look. Literally, you’re “shut out” from the world. No electronics allowed in, either.
This picture does not do the ceiling justice.

How does it work?

Being in the salt cave is a restorative environment. They use pharmaceutical grade salt, which is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. The salts help to loosen up mucous in the lungs, as well as cleanse the sinuses. While in the cave, you will notice a slight taste of salt (not overwhelming at all). That is because they have ground up salt that is infused into aver tiny mist circulating throughout your session. The salts also include over 84 minerals, which our bodies love!

What are the benefits?

On a daily basis, we are exposed to an influx of irritants, allergens and pollutants. Breathing in salt during a halotherapy session, especially at the pharmaceutical grade, has quite a number of benefits. By helping to clear up air-passages and reduce inflammation in a relaxing environment – it can help with a number of different conditions.

  • Seasonal Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Colds, coughs, and chest congestion
  • Improves lung function
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Dermatitis
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Depression

One thing I thought was interesting to learn is the number of people who come have Cystic Fibrosis. While breathing in salt is not the only treatment suggested, it is a good tool to add in. Being consistent can help as you would be repeatedly cleansing your respiratory system, helping to prevent bacteria and infections from proliferating. You can read a study published in the International Journal of Respiratory and Pulmonary Medicine for more information.

What else do they offer?

While I would say halo therapy is the main attraction, they offer a long list of things to follow.

  • 30 Minute Heated Biomat Session
    • They have two Biomats in their private practitioner room. You lie on their full-length BioMat Professional, instantly feeling the warmth of the infrared rays deeply penetrating your body as the negative ions deliver healing signals to your body.  Because the BioMat’s unique technology penetrates at the cellular level, it is capable of addressing a wide range of health issues.
  • Special Events
    • They offer events in the cave 3-4 nights per week. Singing bowls, meditation, Yoga, chakra healing with tuning forks, bio-energetics, guided meditation and more! You can check out the list of upcoming events here.
The yoga sounds/looks amazing!
  • Vibra Therapy
    • The concept is simple: you step onto an oscillating platform that vibrates 7 to 28 times per second, and these vibrations fire off contractions in your muscles.
  • Ionic Detox Foot Bath
    • What are the benefits of detox foot baths?
      • Purging of heavy metals.
      • A more balanced pH level.
      • Reducing inflammation.
      • Purging of yeast.
      • Detoxifying the liver.
      • Internal cleansing with full-body purge.
      • Liver, kidney, and parasite cleansing.
      • Enhancing the immune system.
Bottom left and top right are from my Biomat Session. Bottom right is inside of the individual sauna. Top Left is the hallway that is home to the detox foot bath and vibra therapy. I really enjoyed the Biomat session. It was great compliment to my salt cave session. he BioMat is al device that combines the benefits of deep penetrating far infrared heat therapy, negative ions and amethyst crystals to help a number of things. My main focus was tightness in my back and headaches! I felt very relaxed when I was done.
Thinking about trying it out, but not quite sure? On Tuesday and Thursday’s, you can relax in their salt cave for just $20! Grab a friend and get scheduled!

We are all very busy in our day to day lives, leaving self-care in the backseat, right? It is hard to make the time to take a break and relax, but it is so important. This was the perfect solution to reset.

During the 45 minutes in the serene cave environment, I was able to rest my mind and body, while the salt worked to take out impurities and toxins. As I sat up in my zero-gravity chair, I felt far less tension in my back and neck than when I first sat down. I noticed my headache wasn’t aching and my overwhelmed feeling had diminished, finding more clarity in my words and thoughts. If you’re looking for a break in your schedule, a place to zen out and truly relax – this is your spot!

The owners, Leslie and Rob, are wonderful people and truly have a passion for this and you can see it in each part of their business. Thank you again for treating us to a wonderful night!
