Homestead Metro Park in Hilliard is a unique destination among the many metro parks in Central Ohio. Although it may be smaller in size compared to other parks in the area, it offers a variety of family-friendly activities that more than make up for its compactness.
Located in a serene countryside setting, the 44-acre park boasts a covered bridge, a replica train station, and two barns, making for a peaceful ambiance. In addition to picnic shelters, visitors can enjoy various facilities such as a 2.5-acre fishing pond, play equipment, and sand volleyball and basketball courts. The park also features a three-quarter mile paved trail suitable for hiking, biking, running, or strolling with your leashed pet. This trail winds through the park and links to the 6.1-mile Heritage Rail Trail.
Nature Center
One of the top attractions at this park is its outstanding Nature Center, which offers engaging and educational activities for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a parent looking for fun and interactive ways to teach your kids about nature, or just someone who appreciates the natural world, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here. With a wide range of age-appropriate activities, including puzzles, puppets, coloring sheets, reptile and amphibian exhibits, and DIY hands-on projects, the Nature Center is a must-see destination for anyone visiting this beautiful park.
The nature center is divided into two rooms. The front room features scavenger hunts that you can take with you throughout the park, as well as an opportunity to visit with amphibians and reptiles and learn more about the park. In the back room, you’ll find all sorts of engaging activities to enjoy.
I love the mix of things to do.
Playground x 3
The park offers a great selection of activities for kids, including two play areas, basketball and sand volleyball courts. When we arrived, I was impressed by the size and features of the playground. With climbing structures, slides, tunnels, lookout towers, and even musical instruments, there was something for everyone. The playground was divided into two sections, one geared more towards younger kids and the other more suitable for older children. Overall, the playground was very toddler-friendly and provided endless entertainment.
I will say if you have multiple kids with you and they like to run in different directions – this playground might stress you a bit! There is no way to see the entire playground all at once because there are tunnels and different levels.

Make sure you walk over and check out the covered bridge.
Picnic Areas
There are plenty of picnic areas available at the park. You’ll find numerous groups of well-maintained picnic tables throughout the area. Alternatively, you can bring a blanket and relax under the shade of the park’s many trees.
