Bodega

Bodega, known for their $1 grilled cheese, is easily one of my favorite spots in Columbus. The vibe is pretty rad and their food is unique & delicious. It is the perfect spot for a business lunch, date night, pre-game birthday spot (i’ve spent many birthdays here, enjoying their $10 mule pitcher) or happy hour. On top of their yummy food menu, they have 47 taps (plus, a HUGE beer menu to go along with it), a seasonal cocktail menu and an awesome (covered) patio.

Let’s start with how dreamy their space is. The brick. The bar. The lighting. I want to transport it to my house!

After the marathon (that we did not run), we were starving (from all that non-running we did) and decided to hit up Bodega. We hadn’t been in awhile. Not sure if we’ve actually ever been there for brunch.

I should have got a glass of their sangria. They looked delicious.

If there is a bloody mary, my husband will usually order. I *wish* I was a fan. I love tomatoes. I just can’t get on board with the whole tomato juice & vodka. What I can get on board with is the snacks that come with it. I am a BIG fan of olives. Lucky for me, my husband doesn’t. I wish I could order a side of olives, but, usually when I make the awkward joke about doing it – no one laughs and I feel even more awkward. On top of brunch cocktail, they have a ton of beer! Like, a ton. Check out the list here.

The salt is so pretty!

I went with water this time. I love this container. They sell them at IKEA for $2.99, maybe $3.99. I need to pick one up.

There brunch menu isn’t huge, but, that didn’t stop me from having a difficult time deciding what to get! Everything looked amazing. I don’t really like salmon or egg salad, but, the loaded bagel sounded insanely good. I didn’t order because I know its not my thing but my mouth was watering reading it.

We tried to add a healthy component to our brunch. We did so by substituting the fries for a side said. Maybe I am stretching the truth. We only got a salad because we wanted to larger size of fries…truffle fries. We took the salad home, if I am being honest. Rest assure, my husband did actually eat it!

Crispy Potato Cake loaded up with bacon, cheese, scallions & sour cream. $5. Perfectly crispy and delicious.

Sea Salt & Truffle Fries – Topped with fresh parmesan and tomato aoili dipping sauce. $6. Make sure you get the big order. You won’t regret it.

Bodega “Big Mic” – two angus beef patties, american cheese, iceberg lettuce, house made pickles, special sauce and brioche bun. $12. One of the best burgers we have had in a long time. Just look at it. If you head back later on Sunday evening, you can get this burger, fries & a beer for $10.

I had just had chicken and Waffles a few days prior but, hey, chicken & waffles twice in one week(end)? I’m cool with that. While I may be a self-titled savory-foods-addict, I started craving sweets as soon as I looked at the menu. Why? Well, if you have tasted a churro, you know, why! Bodega’s spin on the classic chicken & waffle dish incorporates southern fried chicken with a churro style waffle. YUM. Adding in maple cayenne butter, a fresh fruit compote and pure Ohio maple syrup – their unique take on the dish blends sweet with savory and spicy into something that is incredibly mouth-watering.

“The best chicken & waffles you’ve ever had” – southern fried chicken, churro style waffle, maple cayenne butter, fresh fruit compote and Milligan’s pure ohio maple syrup. $13
