All Hallows’ Eve at the Ohio Village

Happy First Day of Fall! This means we can officially start celebrating all things fall and Halloween, one of my most favorite times of the year, with bonfires, pumpkin carvings, ghost stories, and costumes.

One October event that you’re NOT going to want to miss is All Hallows’ Eve at the Ohio Village. On Saturday, Oct. 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, you’ll have the chance to enjoy an evening of 1890s-style family fun.

If you’re brave enough, you’ll have a chance to….

  • Follow the lit pumpkin path to the amphitheater and watch for the ghostly apparition of the Headless Horseman, as the storyteller retells Washington Irvingโ€™s famous story.
  • Take part in a 19th century masquerade party.
  • Hear from the fascinating characters who roam Ohio Village and ask them about their All Hallows’ Eve celebrations.
  • Explore the funeral parlor and learn about 19th century funeral practices.

In addition to these beloved, traditional aspects of the event, All Hallowsโ€™ Eve has NEW, fun experiences for guests of all ages:

  •  A childrenโ€™s maze made from burlap and wooden stakes that provides a light-hearted experience that parents and relatives can watch and enjoy.
  • Revival Tent Experience that showcases how members of the African American communities came together with singings, poetry recitation and oration to celebrate the growing Halloween culture.
  •  Phrenology, the reading of skull geography and a popular pseudoscience throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries that was thought to tell a person about themselves.
  • Psychograph Fortune Telling Experience with the Psychographic Spirit Dial, which was a precursor to the popular Ouija Board.
