Blendon Woods is hands down one of our favorite Metro Parks! It’s got everything a family could want: an AMAZING natural play area, a toddler-friendly playground that’s just right for little ones, a storybook trail that’s not too long for little feet (and totally stroller-friendly), and a nature center that keeps the kiddos engaged the whole time. And don’t even get me started on the park rangers! These folks are the real MVPs. They’re always going above and beyond – leading us on cool nature walks to explore different plants and animals, hosting fun storytimes, and patiently answering all the zillion questions my girls have. We seriously love them!
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Blendon Woods surprised us with a brand new playground, replacing one of our favorite hidden gems. While it may sound bittersweet, the moment we arrived and laid eyes on the new playground, any hesitation or sadness quickly faded away. The new addition is absolutely incredible – it’s futuristic and loaded with exciting features like tons of climbing options, cool slides, and fun games that have quickly become our family’s favorite. To top it off, the playground is conveniently located under the shade of the park’s beautiful trees, making it a perfect spot to cool off during the warmer months. We couldn’t be happier with the new playground at Blendon Woods!
It’s easy to find! When you drive into the park, take a right towards the natural play area. Pass where you would typically turn for the natural play area, and you’ll soon find it on your right-hand side. You can’t miss it.

In addition to the new playground, Blendon Woods is the perfect spot for a picnic with your family or friends. With plenty of open space, tables, and grills available, you can enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the beautiful surroundings. Don’t forget to pack your favorite snacks, sandwiches, and refreshing beverages to make the most of your visit
- The Blendon Woods Nature Center is a must-visit for anyone looking to discover the wonders of nature. The center features engaging displays that showcase the local wildlife and habitats, and its large windows offer stunning views of the surrounding features and streams. There’s also a great kid-focused area that’s sure to keep the little ones entertained.
- For a more interactive experience, grab a scavenger hunt from the Nature Center and explore one of the park’s many trails. The center is open from April to September from 9 am to 8 pm, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy all the park has to offer.
- If you’re looking for even more fun, check out the other playgrounds located throughout the park, or take a leisurely stroll along the story trail. And for a truly unique outdoor experience, head over to the 10-acre natural play area. Here, kids can safely explore and play in nature by climbing trees, getting their hands dirty, and enjoying all sorts of adventures.
- To find the natural play area, simply turn right at the ranger station, then take the second left to the parking lot. The entrance to the play area is located at the far end of the lot.

One last thought. Each time I walk the trails of Blendon Woods or explore the natural play area with the girls, I can’t help but feel grateful for the natural beauty that surrounds us. This park is a true gem that reminds us of the importance of preserving our natural spaces
