Bring the family to see Charles Dickensโ festive vision of Christmas come to life and experience a bustling village full of joyful townsfolk taking part in holiday traditions of the era. Guests can interact with holiday characters including, Santa Claus, Ebenezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley, enjoy holiday music and various family-friendly activities throughout the village.
New activities this year will include:
- What the Dickens? A chat with Charles Dickens โ The renowned author, Charles Dickens, will visit Ohio Village with his wife Catherine, speaking about the inspirations for his works and remarking on his tours through the United States. Both Charles and Catherine will hold a Q&A with visitors after their presentation.
- Holiday Parlor Games & Music โ Visitors will enjoy popular holiday-themed parlor games while listening to Christmas tunes of the era.
- Shadow Puppet Performances โ Guests can view a version of Clement Clark Moore’s “A Visit from Saint Nicholas.” The show will run throughout the night in 15- to 20-minute intervals.
- Watch Night Service โ Experience a solemn celebration held each year to commemorate the Emancipation Proclamation. This service is meant to give people a chance to reflect on the previous year and consider what the next may bring. Visitors will learn why members of African American communities participated in this service and how it ties into the Christmas season.
- Winter Holiday Puppets โ Visitors will get creative and make their own themed puppets resembling popular holiday figures like Saint Nicholas or Krampus.
- 12th Night Party โ This celebration showcases how people from the 19th century would have commemorated the end of the Christmas season, including a full meal (for demonstration purposes only) and games.
Things to Know
Pre-registration is required for Dickens of a Christmas- no walkup admission is available. Please select an entry time of 5:30, 6 or 6:30 p.m. for Saturdays or 1, 1:30 or 2 p.m. for Sundays. You are welcome to stay as long as you like once you arrive. You may enter any time after your entry time, however no early entry is permitted.
