Get Ready for Adventure: A Day of Fun at Alum Creek!

We’re big fans of Alum Creek – there’s just so much to do! During our latest visit, we stumbled upon something new (at least, new to us): the Nature Center. It’s been around for quite some time, but somehow it had eluded our radar until now. I can’t believe we hadn’t discovered it sooner, but I’m thrilled we finally did!

Activities We Love at Alum Creek State Park:

Beach Strolls: Take a leisurely walk along the 3,000-foot beach, the largest inland beach in Ohio’s state park system.
Playground Fun: Enjoy some playtime at the playground located near the beach.
Storybook Trail: Take a stroll along the easy half-mile Storybook Trail, where you can enjoy changing tales throughout the year. Begin your adventure at the north end of the beach, and don’t forget to stop by the Free Little Library at the trailhead to swap books with fellow visitors.
Nature Center Exploration: Dive into the wonders of nature at the Nature Center, where hands-on learning activities, fascinating exhibits, a movie theater, and more await.
Have a Picnic: Settle down for a picnic at one of the scenic areas equipped with tables, grills, restrooms, and drinking water.

The real jackpot of our most recent trip is when we stumbled upon the Nature Center. How we missed this gem before is beyond me, but man, are we glad we found it! Inside, it’s like a wonderland of hands-on activities, puppet shows, and all sorts of cool stuff. Plus, those big windows let in tons of natural light.

The visitor center is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Another highlight of the center is its movie theater! With a variety of movies to choose from, there’s something for everyone. The helpful staff members are there to assist you every step of the way. They can even provide subtitles and switch to T-coil mode for those with hearing aids, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the experience. Whether you decide to walk-in or prefer to make arrangements in advance, simply email them at alum.creek@usace.army.mil with your preferred date, time, group name, size, and any special requests. During our visit, we enjoyed watching the 30-minute cartoon, ‘The Lorax’ – it was a fantastic addition to our day!

Other activities you might want to try but we haven’t yet include camping, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding on the thirty-eight miles of bridle trails, disc golf, and visiting the 4-acre dog park along the lake near the marina. Like I mentioned, there are so many different things to do!
