Alum Creek Park North

I mean, what’s not to love about this OG park, right? I’ve been coming here since my nanny days way back when, and now with my own girls, it’s still a top pick. Shaded by trees, it’s got slides galore, cool climbing spots, and even a sandbox (though we usually steer clear of that one, haha). The toddler-friendly train is always a hit, and there’s something fun for kids of all ages. Plus, with all that green grass to run around on, it’s just perfect. We’re totally in love with this place!

Hanby Park

If you’ve got a little one and an older kid who loves to climb, this park is for you! It’s not huge, but it’s packed with cool stuff. There are swings, including a special one for you and your little tyke. Plus, there’s a massive climbing structure for older kids, a mini grassy hill, and a spot just for toddlers with extra fun stuff. And guess what? They’ve got a splash pad for summer fun! There are plenty of picnic tables, some even under cover. You can park at the library lot and it’s just a short walk over. The only downside? There’s not much shade over the play area, but there’s a shelter and lots of trees nearby!

Huber Village Park

Huber Village Park is home to the Planet Westerville Playground aka “Castle Park.” They have an awesome play structure – divided between 2-5 and 6-12 year olds. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝. One of the main reasons I love this park is the community came together to raise the money and build it. They have a great quote when you walk up to the park, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Johnston-McVay Park

Johnston-McVay Park’s theme is all about nature. Teaming up with POD Design, they’ve created a playground that tells local stories and celebrates the natural beauty of the area.

There is so much thought that went into this park, I had to share this – “The custom playground structures and sculptures represent layers of the forest. It’s like a mini-ecosystem, with the emergent layer of tall trees, the thick canopy providing shade, the understory with its diverse plant life, and the forest floor. And check this out: a towering 17-foot Red-Tailed hawk sculpture, complete with a nest of eggs, embodies both the emergent layer and the canopy. It’s like a guardian of the treetops, watching over its future offspring. Kids can even climb inside the hawk and see the world from its perspective! Plus, there’s a log jam climber for exploring the understory and a butterfly junior climber for some forest floor fun.”

Our Favorite Part: They have the old school wheelie slide, hammocks and a Storybook trail! We also enjoy how connected to nature you feel while you are there. Plus, they have some nice shade for a playground in the back corner area!

Millstone Creek Park

WE LOVE THIS PARK! Millstone Creek Park is unique that it connects a natural playground with a modern playground. On one side, you’ll find a colorful, multi-dimensional playground built on a rubberized surface with more slides and climbing features than your kids will know what to do with. On the other side, you’ll find a play area inspired by nature that includes native plants, a mini wetland area, another slide, and more. One of the best parts of the park is that it was designed to be accessible to children with disabilities, from the tallest towers to the boardwalk over the wetlands. The city staff worked with nonprofit groups, children with disabilities, and their parents to design the playground.

Note: It is on the corner of two main roads, but there is a small (more for decoration) fence and pathway in between, however, if you have runners or kids that like to hide — this might not be the park for you! I know when the girls were younger, they liked to run!!

Spring Grove North Park

We stumbled upon this park after a fun morning at Rockin’ Jump! It has a a cute nautical theme that includes an area for little kids and one for bigger kids. Plus, it has a bit of shade and a shelter. I felt like it was pretty easy to keep track of the kiddos, too, as its a smaller park, but still filled with tons of fun!

Towers Park

Younger toddlers? This playground is perfect for them. Towers Park, just off of County Line & Spring Rd. has structured geared towards 6-23 month olds and 2 – 5 year olds! You hardly see that anywhere. We LOVED it when the girls were younger. If you do have older kids, there is a wooden rope climbing area, perfect for siblings. You can read more in this blog post.

Walnut Ridge Park

My niece had her fifth birthday party here and it was perfect because they have a shelter area. Keep that in mind if you’re looking for a warmer birthday party spot! We loved this park, minus the lack of shade, because they had a ton of different climbing opportunities. I would say if you’re kiddos aren’t into climbing, this might not be the park for them. It was very “ninja style.” Also, you park in a lot and take a paved path back to the park. You might not see the park right away, but its there, I promise! 🙂 You can also try to park in the neighborhood, on the street, but that got confusing.
