This past Christmas, I decided to pull off the ultimate surprise for my hardworking sister. She deserves all the rest and relaxation in the world, so I gifted her a night of full, uninterrupted sleep… in a Harry Potter-themed Airbnb in Short North, Columbus! Yep, you read that right. We headed to Short North, Columbus, for a magical getaway that neither of us will ever forget.

Why Harry Potter? Because She Deserves It!
Let me tell you, if there’s anyone more obsessed with Harry Potter than my sister, it doesn’t exist. She’s the one who camped out for midnight movie premieres, attended every midnight showing or maybe it was that 7 PM night before showing where she and her friends dressed up, and can quote every single line from the movies—something I witnessed firsthand countless times. Knowing how tirelessly she dedicates herself to her work and family, I wanted to give her a break that combined her love for Harry Potter with some serious relaxation. Imagine this: tucked away in the back of the Airbnb, we found a pitch-black room with curtains all around the bed. It was the perfect hideaway for some serious Zzz’s. If you’re a Harry Potter fan like her, this Harry Potter-themed Airbnb in Short North, Columbus is a dream come true!

Location, Location, Location
Located in the heart of Short North, this Airbnb is surrounded by over 300 locally owned businesses, from trendy restaurants and unique boutiques to cozy coffee shops and rooftop bars. Just north of downtown Columbus and near the University District, Short North is known for its iconic lighted arches along High Street and its vibrant, diverse culture. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s something for everyone here—women-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and Black-owned spots, amazing street art, sculptures, and the monthly Gallery Hop on the first Saturday. It’s the perfect neighborhood to explore!
Stepping into the Wizarding World
From the moment we walked in, we were transported straight into the Harry Potter universe. Here’s a little peek into our magical stay:

King’s Cross Station: We felt like real Hogwarts students starting our journey. The setup includes a comfy sectional sofa and magical lighting effects—perfect for snapping those Instagram-worthy pics before “boarding” the Hogwarts Express.
Diagon Alley: Walking through lifesize doors and shops was like stepping into the movies. The kitchen, dubbed the Leaky Cauldron, was top-notch with stainless steel appliances and everything you need to cook up some magical meals. Plus, they provided Keurig pods, creamer, and even potion bottle herbs. Talk about attention to detail!
Sorting Hat Ceremony: We got to experience the magical sorting hat deciding our houses. Whether you’re a Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Gryffindor, it adds a personalized touch to your stay.
Hogwarts Room: Harry’s room was absolutely enchanting. A four-post queen bed with house colors, a cozy nook for Hedwig, and a large closet for all our wizarding gear. Plus, there was a washer and dryer—because even wizards need fresh clothes after a day of adventures.
Chamber of Secrets (Bathroom): The bathroom was newly renovated with all the essentials—shampoo, lotion, soap, you name it. And if you forgot anything, the host (covering for Harry) was just a call or message away. Total peace of mind!

Extra Magic with Add-Ons
Want to make your stay even more magical? You can add on extras like a Wizards Package, wine, champagne, rose petals, car detailing, and other fun surprises. For our stay, I whipped up a gift basket with Harry themed treats, pajamas, and some fun snacks. Totally a 10/10!
Check out my Amazon list of fun things I brought with us. The pajamas, socks and UNO cards were by far our favorite!
Exploring Short North’s Food Scene
One of the best parts of our stay was the amazing food just steps away from our magical hideaway. Here are some of my faves:
Mecha Noodle Bar: This place is a must – one of my favorite places in Columbus! It is right across the street. They pay homage to Asian-American cuisine with a creative and flavorful menu. Some of my favorite dishes are:
- Steamed Baos: Fluffy buns that are pure bliss.
- Super Pho Sizzle: Loaded with NY strip, chimichurri, and marrow oil. So good!
- Firecracker Wings: Spicy and packed with flavor—perfect for wing lovers.
- Poutine: A unique twist with Japanese curry and cheese curds.
If you’re there during happy hour (Mon-Fri, 3-6 PM), you can snag half-off starters and sake. Score!

Other Nearby Gems, just steps away:
- Mission Coffee: Your go-to spot for caffeine fixes.
- Galla Park: Great for a nice meal out.
- The Rossi: Great HH and pizzas
- Goodnight Johnny’s: Perfect for a fun night out.
- DOMO Sushi: Sushi lovers, rejoice! Literally next door!
- RocketFizz: Huge selection of candy & bottled sodas in innovative flavors.
