How I Introduced Peanuts to the Girls Before they Turned One Year Old

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com) to use and post my honest opinions. This page may contain affiliate links.

The girls are at the age where we are really making a big effort at feeding them “real food” and let me tell you – it is SCARY. Between making sure the pieces aren’t too big, that the textures are just right, that they’re getting enough and god forbid, that they’re allergic to something — it is a bit stressful. The fear of choking my kids at the same time as giving them an allergic reaction is always on my mind.

One thing I was really concerned about was peanut butter. I asked my doctor if we would test in the office just in case of a reaction and when she said, “No — unless its really common in your family, it’s not a super high chance….” – I literally went numb. I am not trying to be dramatic, but I was numb from fear! I *jokingly* said, “Well, then, I am going to give them peanut butter in the parking lot before their next appointment then, just in case!!” We all awkwardly laugh, but both knew I wasn’t kidding.

After that appointment (6 months), I went straight home and started researching food allergies in kids. I was under the impression (pre-research), that you should wait to introduce things like peanut butter or eggs to kids – especially in the first year. What I found is, the newest research is starting to show that there isn’t really a specific benefit to waiting to give those types of foods. Kids were developing food allergies whether their parents waited or didn’t wait. If you read this study from Harvard Medical School, it shows that if we start giving babies peanut products earlier in life, they’re less likely to develop a peanut allergy.

{Keep in mind, obviously, I am NOT in the medical/research field and I know food allergies in children is a sensitive topic. I am merely telling you what I have recently read and what I am choosing to do with the girls. Whatever you’re doing is the right choice for you and your babes. }

With that being said, I started introducing peanut butter around seven/eight months to the girls. I used a peanut butter powder by a company called Lil Mixins. They are the #1 Pediatrician-Recommended early introduction line and are constantly staying up to date with the latest allergen research.

Their Story

How I Used It

Suggested Use: 2 Teaspoons, 3x Per Week, Until Jar is Empty! Mix 2 teaspoons of Lil Mixins Organic Peanut Powder into any age-appropriate baby food, breast milk or formula. Give your baby Lil Mixins three times per week.

bananas + peanut butter = best combo

I started adding a tiny bit to their purees at one meal. Next, I went to two meals and slowly added a bit more – until I was at 2 teaspoons! Now that the girls are eating more “table” food — I add it into different recipes. Their favorite is when I add it to their banana spinach pancakes. Sounds weird, but I tried them and they are DELICIOUS!

They have a few recipe suggestions here.

Why I Love It

  • I lov knowing that I am in control of how much peanut was being added. I think the first time I literally put in half of a teaspoon! Gradually I added more, up to the suggested amount.
  • I love that they are transparent and are constantly looking at the newest research, making sure they are giving us the best (and safest) products.
  • Unlike peanut butter, Lil Mixins contains no salt or sugar. It contains 100% Organic Peanuts.
  • It is VERY EASY TO USE! Lil Mixins powders blend into baby food with almost no effort. No heating, thinning, blending. If you’ve ever used an adult peanut powder, they usually clump or thicken when mixed with liquid – this does not!
  • One jar will last until your baby is old enough to safely eat peanut butter!
