Exciting News: CAPA Unveils 2024 Summer Movie Series Lineup!

Get ready for a summer filled with cinematic magic because CAPA has just dropped the lineup for the 2024 Summer Movie Series at the iconic Ohio Theatre! 🎬✨

Running from July 12 to August 25, this year’s series promises to be bigger and better than ever, featuring a stellar selection of 28 classic films and cult favorites over seven weeks. From timeless premieres to special anniversary screenings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So grab your popcorn and mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss out on the fun!

One of the highlights of the series is the return of the legendary Clark Wilson, who will be entertaining audiences with his masterful organ performances before each screening. With 33 years under his belt, Wilson knows how to set the mood and get everyone excited for the main event! And speaking of excitement, get ready for Fright Nite Friday with Fritz! While Fritz the Nite Owl won’t be there in person, audiences can still experience the thrill of Nite Owl Theatre with a special presentation of RoboCop on July 26. Complete with retro commercials and Fritz’s signature trivia, it’s sure to be a scream!

CAPA is also offering special services like audio description for visually impaired patrons and the Listen Everywhere app for assistive listening. Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)

• Based on author Sally Benson’s childhood, Meet Me in St. Louis follows the Smith family as they experience young love and bittersweet memories as their beloved hometown readies itself to host the 1904 World Fair. Garland, the second-oldest daughter of Lon and Anna, has fallen in love with the boy next door, only to find that with her father’s promotion, a move to New York City may stop the romance before it starts. Also struggling with the looming move is young Tootie, played so well by Margaret O’Brien that she was awarded a special Oscar for Outstanding Child Actress. Peppered with beloved standards like “Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” this MGM classic is as beloved today as it was 80 years ago.

However, when his wife takes the case as the defense lawyer arguing that a man in the same situation would be treated differently, the trial begins to affect their life at home. Adam’s Rib is a clever exploration of sexism, marital relationships, and equality, wrapped in the witty script and undeniable chemistry of Hepburn and Tracy. 35mm

But even as RoboCop battles crime in the city, he uncovers just how far the corruption goes. His investigation culminates in a showdown with an entire city in the balance.

The Color Purple (1985)

The Towering Inferno (1974)

The Mark of Zorro (1920)

• CAPA is pleased to present the premiere of this silent classic. When Zorro, the masked defender of the people, stands up to the colonial government of old Spanish California, he faces off against Captain Ramon and his men, leaving his trademark ‘Z’ carved into their memories and sometimes, faces. Lolita, Zorro’s love interest, is also pursued by Captain Ramon and Don Diego, a rich but foolish man who is coincidentally never seen the same time as the masked vigilante. Can Zorro save the oppressed, win the girl, and keep his true identity a secret? Clark Wilson provides the soundtrack on the Ohio Theatre’s “Mighty Morton” theatre organ presented by Ice Miller.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)

Chinatown (1974)

• Chinatown keeps its secrets, as private investigator JJ Gittes finds out when he is hired to uncover the infidelity of the LA Department of Water Chief Engineer Hollis Mulwray. When he snaps photos of Mulwray with a woman, he thinks the case is closed, but is soon caught up in web of corruption, false identities, and murder. Mulwray is found drowned in the very freshwater reservoir he was opposing, and his wife convinces Gittes to investigate the murder. As Gittes gets closer to the truth, the stakes are raised higher and higher, and it’s a race against time to bring the killer to justice.

As George exacts his revenge on Rose, he endangers Polly as well before ultimately meeting his own justice. 

Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes (1938)

• Alfred Hitchcock delivers international intrigue on a mountain. Miss Froy disappears, and when Iris tries to find her new friend, the other passengers deny seeing her. Her only ally is Gilbert, a musician with whom she had argued the night before.
