Fun Spots for January 9 – January 15

Happy Sunday! I hope you guys all had a WONDERFUL weekend. I think it is officially winter here in Columbus. Anyone love winter? As long as the snow stays away (driving in it is the worst), I think I can handle it. Luckily we live in a city that offers us plenty to do during the colder months! This week is filled with live music, wine, cheesecake and more.

Monday, January 9

Yoga & Wine Join Liz McGory at Quail Crossing Cellars at 6:00pm for a fun night of yoga and wine. It is a $5 suggested donation for the class. By participating in class, you will receive happy hour wine specials all night. Reserve your spot at emcgory123@gmail.com.

Cheap Skating I didn’t realize how expensive roller skating can get, until I went this weekend! Well, you’re in luck. United Skates of America has $1 admission + $3.50 skate rental on Monday night starting at 6:00pm.

Tuesday, January 10

Open Mic and Comedy – Head to Bossy Girls Pin Up joint for a fun night of comedy and acoustic music. The night will kick off at 8:00pm with comedy from Mark J. Lucas and ending with acoustic music from Morning Theft.

Historical Worthington’s Underground Railroad Lecture – Did you know that the Underground Railroad Ran through Worthington? Head to McConnell Arts Center to learn more about the history of the Underground Railroad in and around Worthington as well as African American history in the city, both before and after the Civil War.

Wine and Canvas Night – Gather your friends and join Plum Run Winery  to learn to paint and drink some wine and beer! Reservations are required and can be done at the website wineandcanvas.com.

Wine & Cheesecake Pairing – Your favorite comfort foods have come together! Camelot has teamed up with The Cheesecake Girl for our Wine & Cheesecake Tasting! On Tuesday, January 10 from 6-8pm! Jazz Wednesday w/ Ryan Jewell Quintet – Brothers Drake Meadowy offers us one of the best listening venues in Columbu. Each week they have different local and touring jazz groups. There is no cover and they will have drink specials all night.

Fat Head’s Brewery Tasting – Lucky’s Market brewery of the Month is Fat Head’s Brewery! They’ll be there from 5:00pm – 7:00pm for a special tasting.

Singo! – Wednesday night is Singo night at Hadley’s! If you haven’t tried this musical version of bingo, you’re going to love it! The fun starts at 8:00pm.

Thursday, January 12

Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour – Join Hills Market Downtown for Thursday happy hour. For $12, you’ll get a pint from their growler bar, and limitless servings from a nacho bar. Start off with a handful of tortilla chips, and add toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, tomato salsa, jalapenos, sour cream and more! Ladies 80s Head to Skully’s Music – Diner for a fun dance party! Word on the street – they’ve added in a  little 90s music.

Movie Night! – Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – Head to Coffee Underground for their movie night series. Admission is always free, and popcorn will be provided as well!

Exhibition: The New Black, a Contemporary Collectors Show – “Art Collectors within the surrounding communities produce some of the most profound works. This exhibition will be comprised of art loaned by selected collectors featuring two and three dimensional works from contemporary African American artists. Join us in the Elijah Pierce Gallery located in The King Arts Complex for this exciting event!”

Friday, January 13

Free Renovation Guided Tour – Have you been wandering what is going on at the convention center and when it will all be done? If so – Friday is the perfect opportunity to check it out. They will be offering FREE guided tours around the Greater Columbus Convention Center to help explore some of our changes and enhancements. A light snack and beverages will be available as well. The Admission is FREE.  Meeting Place: The Connector. Best entrance is the front entrance by the High Street drop off area doors.

Winter Happy Hour Wine Tasting –  What better way to kick off the New Year than with our Happy Wine tastings. For $10, you can enjoy five glasses of wine, music and snacks at Global Gallery.

The Amazing Cat Show! – “Come out Friay the 13th in January to celebrate everyone’s favorite internet pals, and support a local animal rescue. 100% cat themed art for your viewing and purchasing pleasure! Special performance by Movement Activities – 400 Rich St. and Mikey Thomas! This year, our friends at Colony Cats (& dogs) will be the charity we support. We have worked with Colony Cats before, and last year they were able to help many animals through their TnR (trap and release) spay/neuter program.”

Ladies’ Night- Movie Edition at Vertical Adventures! – “Each month we have something special going on and this month we are playing a movie (movie tbd). So create a theater style potluck dish to share come crush your climbs with the best community of ladies around!”

Ceramic Mug Hand-Building Workshop –  Per usual, Art with Anna is hosting a super fun event! “Join Cynthia Vardhan, professional ceramic artist, at Art with Anna on January 15 for our first ever hand-building clay workshop! You will learn the ancient art of coil building to make your very own ceramic mug. Cynthia will also go over the basics of surface design including glazes, underglazes, texture and pattern. All professional supplies and tools will be provided – just bring your imagination! Your work will be fired in an electric kiln and be ready for pickup in about a week.”
