Crime & Corruption Day at The Ohio History Center

Have you been to The Ohio History Center? It is one of my favorite spots to visit. While nannying, we spent a great deal of time there. If you aren’t familiar, they offer a wide variety of interactive activities for both kiddos and adults. You can spend an entire day there exploring exhibits from life in the 1950s to extinct and endangered Ohio species to an large collection of restored Civil War battle flags. I can’t wait for the girls to be old enough to truly enjoy it. You can check out one of our visits here.

One of the coolest things about visiting is exploring Ohio Village, which sits right behind the museum. Ohio Village is their recreated 19th-century community and  is included with general admission to the Ohio History Center. From Sat., May 25, through Sun., Sept. 1, 2019, Ohio Village is open to explore. After that, it is open for special events such as Pleasures of the Cup: Spooky Spirits, All Hallows’ Eve and Dickens Dinner .

While these events sound AMAZING, we don’t have to wait much longer for an amazing event. Sat., Aug. 10, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Crime & Corruption will be taking place. It’s your chance to learn more about the seedy side of history. While there, you can channel your inner detective to help solve a crime, witness a mock trial and learn some lingo used by pickpockets during the 1890s. You’ll also have the chance to learn more about little-known Victorian crimes.

At Crime & Corruption, you’ll be able to:

  • Watch as Ohio Village residents stand trial for their crimes.
  • Learn about the little-known Victorian crime of dress smuggling and see how much you can pack into a trunk.
  • Explore the different ways Victorians attempted to protect their graves.
  • Solve a crime in CSI: Ohio Village.
  • Pick up some lingo used by Victorian criminals.
  • Join Columbus’ own True Crime Garage podcast as they explore cold cases from the Buckeye State.
  • And much more!

This is going to be a great event + you’ll get the chance to explore the rest of the history center while attending.
