Our Metro Parks here in Central Ohio are nothing short of incredible. We are fortunate to have them as they feature 19 outstanding natural area parks with more than 230 miles of trails and over 27,700 acres of land in seven Central Ohio counties. With everything going on right now, I feel even more fortunate to have a safe way to get outside, stretch our legs, and get a breath of fresh air. While it’s more than enough to simply take in the gorgeous scenery, the Metro Park staff have created ways to make it even more special. I’ve listed three ways o explore our Metro Parks this winter, but I encourage you to explore their website and social media for even more ideas!

Bundle up and put on your hiking boots โ€“ itโ€™s time for Metro Parks annual winter hikes! This year, the winter hike series takes on a new look as your ticket to travel through 18 different parks and hike miles and miles of trails. Starting in December, visitors can hike in six different parks per month and have their ticket to travel booklet stamped. After seven hikes, visitors can return their completed travel ticket to receive a unique 2020/2021 Winter Hike patch.

Discover the beauty of winter during your winter hikes. Theyโ€™ve added beautiful light displays at Blacklick Woods, Highbanks, Homestead, Inniswoods and Scioto Grove Metro parks. Stop by between 5 PM and 8 PM to see them sparkle throughout December!

Theyโ€™ve created an interactive StoryTrail at Blendon Woods! This trail will feature a full-length picture book that you can read with your preschoolers (and bigger kids too!!) and includes activity suggestions to support the story.  The Story Trail will be fully wheelchair and stroller accessible, short enough for even the smallest visitors to complete, but long enough to get the wiggles out! Their goal is to have a new story each month this winter, starting December 10th. Story Trail will “depart” from the Nature Center and utilize the 1/3 mi.  trail out to the lake. This month they are featuring The Mitten by Jan Brett.

Blendon Woods: 4265 E Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43081

Bonus: Sweet little piglets were just born at Slate Run Metro Park and Living Historical Farm. I canโ€™t wait to see them!
