I’m excited to share with you that Sunrise Sanctuary’s Open Barn Days are starting back up this month! If you haven’t heard of Sunrise Sanctuary before, they are a nonprofit animal rescue located in Marysville, Ohio. They provide a forever home to over 170 animals who have been rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
At Sunrise Sanctuary, the animals are not just residents – they are family. Their needs always come first, and the staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that every animal receives the care and attention they deserve. What is truly remarkable about Sunrise is that they are entirely run by volunteers. Without the dedication of these selfless individuals, as well as the support of corporate friends, donors, and supporters, this sanctuary would not be possible. From pocket pets and companion animals to farm animals and birds and fowl, Sunrise provides a loving home to a variety of special beings.
Open Barn Days is a monthly event where Sunrise Sanctuary opens their doors to the public, allowing you to meet and mingle with the special animals that call Sunrise home. During this event, visitors can take a self-guided tour of the sanctuary, with volunteers walking throughout the grounds to answer any questions and provide assistance. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the animals and learn more about the compassionate work being done at Sunrise.
Sunrise Sanctuary relies heavily on events such as Open Barn Days as a significant source of their funding. While admission is charged for these events, all proceeds go directly toward supporting the care and wellbeing of the animals at the sanctuary. Admission prices are set at $10 for adults (18+) and $5 for youth (4-17), while children aged 3 and under are admitted free of charge. Back in 2021, I brought Emerson to Open Barn Days at Sunrise Sanctuary, and it was an unforgettable experience for both of us. We had a blast meeting so many animals and hearing their inspiring stories. Watching Emerson run around and get excited to meet each and every animal was so much fun! The animals are all so well-cared for at Sunrise – It was a heartwarming reminder of the power of love and compassion.
If you’re planning on visiting, here are a few tips from their website to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:
- Dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes with good tread. You’ll be walking around the farm, so be prepared for uneven ground.
- Don’t bring umbrellas, as they can scare the animals.
- Leave your pets at home for their safety and the safety of Sunrise Sanctuary’s residents.
- Don’t feed the animals or bring food of any kind inside the main gate.
- Supervise children at all times and be respectful of the animals – no running, yelling, or chasing them.
- Wait for a volunteer to open gates.
- Park in the grass and do not block the driveway.
