New Adventures Await: Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks Update Playgrounds for Even More Fun

Did you know our Metro Park System features 20 outstanding natural area parks, spanning over 28,500 acres of breathtaking land across seven central Ohio counties? With over 230 miles of trails, there’s no shortage of natural fun to be had. But here’s the cherry on top: our well-loved playgrounds have undergone an exciting makeover, transforming into brand new, state-of-the-art play spaces that add a touch of magic to your outdoor adventure.

While they haven’t all been transformed, here are a few that have and are totally worth checking out! Keep this blog post bookmarked, as I will be updating it as they upgrade.

Blacklick Woods Metro Park – Reynoldsburg

The new playground is coming to Ash Grove at Blacklick Woods Metro Park. It is currently under construction and not yet complete. Follow along on their Facebook Page for updates and opening dates. I will also update this blog post accordingly!

Blendon Woods Metro Park – Westerville

We love Blendon Woods! There’s so much fun stuff to do there. They’ve got a cool natural play area, a nature center, and even a storybook trail. And now, with the awesome new playground they’ve added, it’s become even better. You can easily spend a whole day exploring and having a blast in this park!

When you drive into the park, you will come to a dead end. Take a right and follow the road until you see it on your right hand side. You can’t miss it!

Highbanks Metro Park – Lewis Center

You’re in for a treat at the new playground in Big Meadows! Tucked away at the back of the park, it’s hands down our favorite spot to hang outโ€”except maybe for the awesome nature center, of course! With a massive parking lot, a nice shelter with grill, and even a zipline, this playground has it all. But wait, there’s more! You’ll also have easy access to one of our all-time favorite creeks. It’s an adventure-packed haven where you and your friends can have an absolute blast all summer long.

Homestead Park – Hilliard

While I haven’t had the chance to visit the updated playground yet, Signe from Say-n-Play Columbus certainly has! She shared all the exciting details and even posted some fresh pictures on her Instagram. Make sure to check out her post and swipe until you find the one showcasing Homestead Park. Trust me, it looks absolutely incredible!

Pickerington Ponds – Canal Winchester

It seems like it’s still undergoing some construction, but there are play features available in The Burning Lake area, like this really cool balance course. Make sure to keep an eye on their Facebook Page for updates!

Sharon Woods Metro Park – Westerville

Sharon Woods is definitely one of our favorite parks. It has a fantastic natural play area and multiple playgrounds, including this incredible new addition. The park also offers wonderful hiking trails, tram rides during the summer, a storybook trail, a fishing lake, and so much more! Slate Run – Canal Winchester

While this playground isn’t brand new, it certainly played a role in starting the modern playground trend. It offers plenty of climbing opportunities, and at the top, you’re rewarded with exciting slides! Additionally, there are numerous sheltered areas that are perfect for picnics. Just before you head back to the playground, make sure to visit Slate Run Historical Farmโ€”it’s an absolute must! For more information, you can read about it here.
