Presidents’ Day at the Ohio History Center

If you’re looking for something to do with your kids on Presidents’ Day, head to one of my favorite spots in Columbus – The Ohio History Center. They are having a special day with themed programing in celebration of Presidents’ Day! You’ll have the chance to explore Ohio’s presidential heritage, enjoy interactive programs and more.

The Harding Art Collection • 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Only a few examples of the art selected by President and Mrs. Harding for use in their private homes still exist in the Ohio History Connection’s collection today. Stop by our collections table to see some of those objects, including two pieces found in the attic of the Harding home and recently conserved, sculptures the Hardings purchased on a European vacation and a portrait of the Hardings’ beloved dog, Hub.

A Chat with Victoria Woodhull • 11 a.m. & 2 p.m.

Ohioan Victoria Woodhull became the first female presidential candidate when she ran for office in 1872. Meet Victoria herself, portrayed by Robin Shuricht, and learn about her many accomplishments in this live theatre performance.

The 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry: Regiment of Presidents • 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.

Join History Curator Cliff Eckle for a presentation about the Ohio Civil War unit in which future presidents Rutherford B. Hayes and William McKinley served.

The Unknown Lincoln: Stories Seldom Told • Noon

Hear lesser-known stories about Abraham Lincoln from the man himself, portrayed by Robert Brugler.

President Warren G. Harding – Revisited • 1 p.m.

Harding Presidential Sites Manager Sherry Hall previews how the newly restored Harding Home and the new Warren G. Harding Presidential Center in Marion offers exciting opportunities for examining the stories of President and Mrs. Warren Harding. The enhanced site is set to open to visitors in summer 2020.

Presidential Selfie Station
